Utilising this approach helps to capture the “Negotiables and Non-Negotiables” within a person’s life
to identify what must be there for life to make sense to the person; what is essential and non-negotiable. The approach also captures what would be good to have in place if possible, although not
absolutely essential, these areas are negotiable.
Developing an insight into what is negotiable or non-negotiable for the person provides the detail
required to inform those around the person, including those providing support or care, about what
works well for the person and how to strive towards achieving a good quality of life.
