Supporting people to Feel hopeful and be in the driving seat of their own lives

Self Directing My Support

‘Self Directed Support’ is a way of taking control of how you live your life, which can include any Health and Social Care support you access.

If you are Self Directing your own support, you choose who sees information about you, and which professionals and services you want to have involved in your support.

Health and Social Care professionals and services should work together with you to design support that makes sense for you and meets your needs in the best way.

The law in England which supports this is ‘Care Act 2014’. Under the Care Act, people can choose to Self-direct their own support arrangements. Carers also receive rights to Self-direct their own support under the Care Act.

In Wales, Scotland and Ireland, there are other laws with similar rules about Self Directed Support, but the details are different in each case.

At Imagineer, all of our work is about helping people who want to Self-direct their own support. We also work with carers, professionals and support agencies who want to enable people to Self-direct their own support.

We use the approaches of Support Brokerage and Person Centred Planning to help people to Self-direct.
